Rena Miwako Wheaton

Managing Partner

Our founder, Rena M. Wheaton, is a business transactions attorney with extensive experience advising U.S. and multinational companies, including financial institutions and technology companies both as in-house counsel and in private practice.


Prior to founding The Wheaton Law Group, Ms. Wheaton was a Partner of Guth | Christopher LLP specializing in business transactions. Prior to joining Guth | Christopher, Ms. Wheaton served for more than ten years as in-house senior corporate counsel at telecommunications, technology commercialization and finance companies, including stints as SVP and Chief Legal Officer of Titan Wireless, Inc., an international mobile telecommunications firm; VP and General Counsel of Zone Reactor, a market driven technology commercialization company; and SVP, General Counsel and Secretary of the Los Angeles Community Development Bank, a $435 Million federally capitalized economic development bank.


Ms. Wheaton began her career serving clients for more than 10 years as a corporate lawyer with O’Melveny & Myers LLP and Shearman & Sterling.


Ms. Wheaton received her JD from Columbia University School of Law and her BA in Political Science from Barnard College, and is a member of the California and New York Bar.


Ms. Wheaton serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Japanese American National Museum and is a former Director of Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics (LEAP) and alumnae of the Direct Women Board Institute.
